Restaurants, Pubs and places to eat.
There are lots of good restaurants in the area It is advisable to check opening times and to book well in advance for the most popular, as they are normally fully booked over weekends during the peak season. We have not tried them all but these are either very nearby, recommended by ourselves or have had good reports from guests. We have listed them with the nearest first. Looe has the best choice of restaurants and usually somewhere can be found with out a reservation. We have only listed a few and many change chefs each season so please do let us know if you find somewhere good so we can add them to our list.
2 miles. Rod & Line pub, Tideford
The Rod & Line is a great little pub, a bit rough around the edges, it's small, old fashioned, very friendly and funky. It hosts live music from some of the best local musicians at the weekends and most importantly it offers good value freshly prepared local food all day, along with some good local ales. It has a daily specials board featuring local produce such as scallops, crab claws, Looe lemon sole and steaks Outside of peak season it has a really good homemade Sunday roast at around 5-6pm. Very popular with the locals and our guests who usually rave about it, unless their extra busy and have to wait a while for their meals. Telephone: 01752 851323
3 miles. Blue Plate, Downderry
Blue plate is Nick and Kelli Barclay's new restaurant in the heart of the coastal village of Downderry. Nick has been a longtime favorite chef of ours and it's great to see them open up so close to Buttervilla. They offer a distinctly different choice of what and where to eat, all under one roof. Pop in for a bowl of mussels and a cold beer, or perhaps a cured meat and local cheese platter to share with friends over a great bottle of wine. Alternatively you can make a night of it and enjoy dinner in the main dining room. Blue Plate really is about 'food for any mood' featuring the areas finest, freshest produce lovingly prepared and simply presented. No fuss, no foam and no pretention!
